Imogene J. Gilliard age 98 of Zolfo Springs passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2012 in Sebring. She was born May 10, 1914 in Grady County, GA and move to Hardee County 78 years ago. Imogene was the Unofficial Mayor of Zolfo Springs. She enjoyed volunteering for Project Hope, and working with the less fortunate. Imogene also volunteered at the Polling places during elections, and was very active with the American Cancer Society. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Edward Gilliard; and two sons Maurice and James Gilliard. Imogene is survived by two daughters Peggy Gambrell of Port Charlotte, Grace Thomas and husband John of Crescent City; two sons Eddie Gillard and wife Pam of Wauchula, Jimmy Gilliard and wife Renee of Brandon; Daughter in Law Carolyn Gilliard of Wauchula; two sisters Montine Tyson of Wauchula, Betty McCleod of Wauchula; twenty-eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Visitation will 9-10am Saturday, October 20, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Zolfo Springs. Services will follow the visitation at 10:00am with Marcus Shackelford and Duck Smith officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery with William Bradley Gilliard concluding the services.
