Grace Marguerite
Glorius
January 6, 1914 – November 10, 2021
Grace Marguerite Glorius passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 107 on November 10, 2021 while visiting family in Valdosta, Georgia. Grace was born on January 6, 1914, in Westminister, Maryland, to the late James and Estella Schweigart. Before and after school, she milked cows on the family farm outside of Westminister. Her family left the farm and settled in Avon Park, Florida, during the Great Depression. She graduated as Valedictorian of Avon Park High School in 1933. Soon thereafter, her family moved to Wauchula where Grace met and married Phil Glorius, her husband of over 73 years. Grace was a stay-at-home mom until her youngest child was in high school. Grace then went to work as the financial officer in the Hardee County School Superintendent's Office until her retirement in 1979. She truly loved her job and worked for many superintendents. During retirement, Grace and Phil enjoyed traveling with family and friends in their Winnebago. Shortly after Phil passed in 2009, Grace moved to West Palm Beach to live out the remainder of her life with her daughter and son-in-law. Grace adored her family and would spend hours looking at family videos. Her first question was always "Now bring me up-to-date on everyone". She was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Wauchula and loved reading her Bible twice daily. She enjoyed watching football and game shows on TV. Grace loved making beautiful Christmas stockings for everyone in the family and close friends. She was an excellent cook and baked delicious butterscotch pies for her son, Shoo Fly Pie for her daughter and her ribbon cake for everyone's birthday and Christmas.
Having outlived all who knew her simply as Grace, she was lovingly known as Mema, or as Amazing Grace. She is survived by her son, Larry Glorius (Jean), her granddaughter Kimberly Tolle (Albert), great grandchildren Caleb and Brooke; grandson Kevin Glorius (Leigh), great grandchildren Josh, Meg and Anna Grace; all of Valdosta, Georgia, daughter Sharon Ghioto (Jim), grandson Philip Justiss (Lauren) and great-grandchildren William, Griggs, Grace Catherine and James, all of Freeport, Florida. She is also survived by her sister, Nellie Schweigart, of Lakeland, nieces Betty Tidwell and Ann Kopke and nephew Jim Griffin.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Helen Hendry and Dorothy Griffin, her husband, Phil, and granddaughter, Dr. Tammy Pendergrass.
A graveside service of family and friends will be held on Saturday, November 20 th at 1pm in Wauchula Cemetery at 1140 US-17. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to The First United Methodist Church of Wauchula.
