Lynwood Grover Goat Rowan, age 93, of Arcadia, Fl. passed away at his home June 13, 2008. He was born in Detroit, Mi. Dec. 11, 1914 and had lived in Arcadia for the past 40 years, moving here from Georgia. Goat was a decorated WWII and Korean Conflict veteran. He retired in 1961 from the U. S. Army as a Master Sergeant. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 6 Bronze Service Stars, ROK Presidential Unit Citation, and Distinguished Unit Citation, 2 Clusters to Purple Heart 3rd Clasp to good Conduct Medal and the Combat Infantry Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. Upon his discharge after 22 years of honorable service with the U. S. Army, Goat came to Arcadia where he worked as ranch foreman for Tiger Bay Cattle Ranch. He enjoyed working cattle and being in the woods with nature. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Arcadia. Survivors are; five sons, Dusty Rowan, Arcadia, George (Darlene) Rowan, Valrico, Fl., Kirk Rowan, Gibsonton, Fl. Robin (Diane) Rowan, Murphy, NC. and Jeff Rowan of No. Fl. also, three daughters, Lynne Rowan Holden, Delray Beach, Fl., Betsy Rowan, Aurora, Co., and Richey Agent, Arcadia, Fl. Goat also leaves nine grand children, Michael Rowan, Chris Rowan, Cathy Rowan, Tony Rowan, Elizabeth Christianson, Josh Rowan, Bradley Agent, Taylor Chiszar, Shane Rowan, Brittney Rowan, and Bryan Rowan and several great grandchildren. He is preceded in death be his beloved wife Betty Rowan in 1991. Memorial services will be held at 10:00AM, Tuesday, June 17, 2008, from Ponger-Kays-Grady Chapel 50 No. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia, Fl. with Rev. Jerry Atkins officiating. The DeSoto Co. Honor Guard will render Military Honors at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fl. Sheriff s and Boys Ranch, P. O.
