George F. Harvard, age 66, of Arcadia, Fl. passed away October 3, 2009 in Punta Gorda, Fl. George was born February 19, 1943 in Lake Wales, Fl. and had lived in Arcadia for the past 27 years, moving her from Ft. Carson, Colorado. George retired as Sergeant First Class with the U. S. Army, having devoted 20 years of faithful services to his country. George served Vietnam, having been awarded a bronze star, two Army Commendation Medals and the Vietnam Service Medal. Upon completion of his military career, George began working on his second career, that of being a computer operation specialist at G. Pearce Wood Memorial Hospital and DeSoto Memorial Hospital, Arcadia, Fl. He also worked as a correctional officer for DeSoto Correctional Institute (5 years) and the Hardee Correctional Institute for two years. George loved his family and spending time with them. He never met a stranger. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Arcadia, Fl. Survivors are his beloved wife, Linda Harvard, Arcadia, two daughters; Toni Jo. (Russell) Justice, Charlotte Co., Fl. and Linda Lynn M. Martinez, Wauchula, Fl. He also leaves five brothers; L. J. (Charlotte) Harvard, John D. (Barbara) Harvard both of Arcadia, Bennie Harvard, Ft. Myers, Fl., Joseph Joe (Mary) Harvard, Pt. Charlotte, Fl. Ernest (Darlene) Harvard, Bonita Springs, Fl. a sister Genevieve Smith, Arcadia, Fl. and five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Visitation will be conducted from 6:00PM until 8:00PM October 8, 2009 at Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home Chapel, 50 No. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia, Fl. Funeral services will be at 11:00AM October 9, 2009 at First Baptist Church, Arcadia, Fl. with Rev. Richard Englert officiating. Burial will follow at Joshua Creek Cemetery. The DeSoto County Honor Guard will render military honors at the graveside.
