Obituary

Gayle C. Gillenberg of Arcadia, Florida, passed away peacefully in her home on July 6, at the age of 84 surrounded by her loving family. Gayle was born in Baltimore, MD and the family moved to Arcadia when she was young. Gayle was a proud resident of Arcadia for almost 80 years. She graduated from Desoto County High School in 1958. In 1960, Gayle married the love of her life, Lamar Gillenberg.

Gayle is survived by her loving daughter (Stephany Kilgore), two beautiful grandchildren (Samantha & Jessica), and several nieces and nephews. Gayle was proceeded in death by her husband Lamar Gillenberg and sister Joyce Hagan.

Gayle enjoyed being industrious all her life, her first job was at Koch's Drug Store at the age of 13 ½, we're sure breaking all sorts of labor laws. She began working for Channel Insurance Agency at age 15 ½ and worked for Channel Insurance for 42 years, helping the whole community. Not one to stop being busy, Gayle went on to work for West Elementary School and fully retired after 13 years as the school bookkeeper.

Family meant the world to Gayle and she enjoyed visits from all the family. Hosting the family Thanksgiving dinners for decades or cooking big meals and making sure everyone had enough to eat. Gayle was very proud of her daughter, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and all members of her family, frequently displaying their awards and talking about their accomplishments.

Gayle was the ultimate Florida State University fan and a great friend to all, even Florida Gator fans. She will always be remembered for her quick wit and great sense of humor. Gayle would do anything possible for any of her friends and oftentimes would accomplish the impossible for them. Gayle enjoyed attending High School Reunions and yearly gatherings of friends who called themselves "The Birthday Club".

During her life, Gayle enjoyed creating beautiful ceramics, which she often gifted to family and friends. Gayle donated her kiln to Desoto County High School so generations of students can continue to create.

We couldn't have asked for a better parent, grandparent, sister, or aunt. Gayle will be missed every day. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her. Rest In Peace.
