Francis Ellis "Snooty" McCall, age 94 passed away on September 10, 2023 at his home in Lake Placid, FL. He was born on April 12, 1929 in Nocatee to the late Paul G. and Delilah Franklin McCall. He was a lifetime resident of our community. Ellis was of the Southern Baptist faith and a member of Nocatee Baptist Church.
His Grandparents & their young family traveled from North Florida by boat to settle in Nocatee.
They found work at the Nocatee Crate Company & in later years both his parents did as well.
Ellis or "Snooty" as many of his friends called him, graduated from DeSoto High School in 1947. He was President of his senior class where he played football, basketball, track, swam and boxed. Also served in "D" Club, Key Club, Bark & Annual Staff.
During High School he worked for Embry Ridle taxiing planes at Carlstrom Field during WW II.
After graduation he worked at DeSoto Gas.
He then served in the Army from 1951-1953 during which he was overseas during the Korean Conflict.
Married Virginia Waters in 1953 until her passing in 2017; 64 years.
They lived and raised their children at the corner of Hwy 760A & Shores Avenue from 1953-2003. The first house was existing without electricity, but it had a tall windmill for water & a homemade solar hot water system. They divided the lot and built, moved and sold 2 additional houses. They also built a house on Lake June in 1965 and moved over permanently in 2003.
He retired after many years of service from Eli Witt. Ellis loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting. His greatest accomplishment was his family, he loved spending time with his sons and their families.
He is survived by two sons, Wayne S. (Colleen) and Myron E. (Mary Pat) McCall, four grandchildren Heath (Mattie) McCall, Carson (Alex) McCall, Meagan McCall, Kendall McCall, four great-grandchildren Berkley, Ellis, Grant and Cameron, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years Virginia McCall, his parents, brothers Willis McCall and Hubert McCall.
A visitation of family and friends will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023 from 9:00am until 10:00am at Nocatee Baptist Church, 4610 SW US 17, Nocatee, FL. 34266
Funeral Services will follow at 10:00am at the church with Rev. Eric Romick officiating. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Arcadia.
Ellis was a member at Nocatee Baptist Church most of his life and would have preferred donations to NBC versus flowers.
