Obituary

Eugenia Helen Hughes, age 93, was called to be with the Lord Wednesday, April 29, 2009 in Arcadia. She was born June 17, 1915 in Lucedale, MS moving to DeSoto County 37 years ago. Eugenia was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family. She was married to her late husband, Clarence E. Hughes, Sr. for 65 wonderful years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Arcadia, and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter #30, Arcadia which she served as Worthy Matron in 1980. Eugenia gave her time helping others by serving as Pink Lady for 40 years at DeSoto Memorial Hospital. She is survived by a son, Clarence Evan Hughes, Jr. of Arcadia, Fl. and a daughter Fern (Richard) Giacobbe of Houston, PA, three grandchildren, Clarence Evan Hughes, III of Portsmouth, VA, Eileen (John) Ulichnie of N. Versailles, PA and Richard (Andrea) Giacobbe of Vero Beach, FL., and four Great-grandchildren. She was preceded by her husband Clarence E. Hughes, Sr. and her parents A.L & Lottie Smith Mason. Memorial Services will be held, Saturday, May 2, 2009 at 11:00AM at the chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, 50 N. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia, Fl. with Rev. Richard Englert of the First Baptist Church of Arcadia officiating. The Order of Eastern Star, Lodge # 30 will also conduct a final memorial ceremony.
