Edwin Martinez, 18, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2008, in Arcadia, Fla. He was born in Arcadia and was a lifelong resident. Edwin graduated from DeSoto County High School in 2007. He played in the St. Paul's Catholic Church soccer league, was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, serving as an altar boy during Mass, and was an avid fisherman. Edwin was voted by his classmates at DeSoto High School as the "Classmate with the Greatest Smile." He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him. He is survived by his parents, Pedro and Maura Barajas Martinez; brothers, Kevin and Pedro Martinez Jr.; sisters, Sonia and Andreina Martinez; paternal grandfather, Salvadore Barajas; maternal grandparents, Jose and Celestina Martinez, all of Arcadia; and many cousins, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Maura Barajas, in 2007. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a rosary recital at 7 p.m., today, Friday, May 2, 2008, at Ponger-Kays-Grady Chapel, 50 N. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia. A Mass of Christian burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2008, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Arcadia. Burial will follow at Joshua Creek Cemetery. Arrangements are by Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, Arcadia.
