Douglas Deerwood Dawn, age 81, passed away, March 25, 2011 in Arcadia, FL. Douglas was born July 23, 1929 in Chattanooga, TN. He owned and operated D. D. Dawn Egg & Poultry Co. in Ft. Oglethorpe, GA, supplying many of the restaurants in the area. He and his family loved to eat at Bea s Restaurant in Chattanooga, TN. He was a Deacon at the Baptist Tabernacle in Rossville, GA. He also served as a Deacon at Bay Haven Baptist Church in Sarasota, FL. He attended New Day Baptist Church in Arcadia, FL. He loved his home in Arcadia and loved sitting in his rocking chair on the front porch. He loved working in his daughter s shop in downtown Arcadia and talking to customers and telling stories of is younger days. One of his favorite things he would ask everyone he met, are you a Christian ? He never met a stranger and always had a smile. Through many years of failing health-he never complained. Survivors are his beloved wife of sixty-two years, Jean Gwendolyn Dawn, Arcadia, sons; Douglas Deerwood Dawn, Jr., Charles Winston Dawn, and a daughter; Gail Robin Dawn Hinesley and friend Ray Stewart, all of Arcadia, six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, three brothers; Benjamin and Wayne Dawn of Georgia, and Teddy Dawn, of Sarasota, FL, sisters; Audrey Jackson, Bobbie Snyder, and Donna Barclay all of Georgia, and Reba Hudgens, Pompano Beach, FL We love you daddy and will always miss you. Memorial services will be conducted July 23, 2011 at a location yet to be announced. In lieu flowers, donations may be given to help with funeral expenses.
