Obituary

Dorothy May Simmat, age 86. of Arcadia, Fl. passed away November 15, 2008 in Punta Gorda, Fl. She was born in New haven, Ct. March 31, 1922 and had lived in Arcadia since 1978, moving here from Milford, Ct. Dorothy retired from G. Pearce Wood Memorial Hospital, as an executive secretary to the Administrator after 15 years of faithful service. Dorothy had a passion for helping others. She did volunteer work and served as an advocate for Senior Friendship Center of DeSoto Co., Desoto Co. School Board, the Literacy Council, and Desoto County Program of the Wesleyan Florida Southern College. Dorothy was a member of Arcadia Church of the Brethren where she served as the Treasurer, Deacon and was a member of the Board of Directors. She was very active in church functions for as long as she was able. Dorothy was an ordained minister. She received her second birth into the family of God on Feb. 4, 1952. Her body waits but her spirit is with God . Survivors are two sons, Wayne W. (Grace) Burns, Bridgeport, CT., and Bob Burns, San Antonio, Fl. a step son, Ron Simmat, Bruceton Mills, WV. three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She also leaves a niece Laura Sivigny, Wallington, CT., and four grand nieces Dorothy is preceded in death by husbands, Wayne Burns and Rev. Otto Simmat, her parents Noah and Stella Caswell, brother William Caswell, and sisters Laura Stuart and Eleanor Luce. Visitation will be held from 6:00PM until 8:00PM Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008 from Ponger-Kays-Grady Chapel, 50 No. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia, Fl Funeral Services will be held at 10:00AM, Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008 from Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Longenecker officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Arcadia, Fl.
