Dolores Petersen Jones, age 81, passed away December 31, 2011 in Arcadia, FL. Dolores was born in Chicago, IL November 20, 1930. Her family moved to Arcadia in 1944. Dolores graduated from DeSoto High School, class of 1948. She continued her education at the University of South FL, receiving her Bachelors Degree in 1966. She received her Masters Degree in Education, specializing in the teaching of gifted children, from Nova University in 1983. Dolores began her teaching career August 1966 at West Elementary, Arcadia, FL when she retired from public school teaching on May 2003. She resumed her working career in August, 2003 concentrating on homebound children until 2008. Dolores was a writer in her spare time, having published Arcadia, Then and Now , a historical pictorial reference of Arcadia. Dolores was a member of the Retired Teachers Association; she enjoyed doing the family genealogy, crafts, making dolls and pottery. She was a world traveler. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Survivors are her two sons, David Jones and Darryl (Chaun) Jones, Arcadia, FL, three daughters, Drucilla (David) Allen, Denise (Doug) Goodwin, both of Ringgold, GA, and Devony Porter, Arcadia, FL, twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband William David Jones, 2007, along with their son Darwyn and two brothers Francis and Ronald Petersen. Memorial services will held at 11:00AM, Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Arcadia, FL with Rev. Jim Wade officiating.
