Eugene R. "Gene" Williamson, 77, of Arcadia, Florida passed away Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Doctor's Hospital in Sarasota. Gene was born January 3, 1936 in Fitzgerald, Georgia and moved to Arcadia in 1953. He was here only a few days before Frances Whidden, the love of his life, swept him off his feet. They married in 1955 and raised 3 children. Gene worked for the State of Florida, Dept. of Transportation for more than 37 years. During those years, he wore many hats, but primarily wore that of Highway Supervisor. He loved gardening and fishing and liked his mullet "well salted." Above all, Gene was a very family oriented man with strong values and morals. Gene was a wonderful husband to Frances for over 58 years, a loving Daddy to Sherry, Gina and Sam and an amazing Papa to Samantha and Bradley. Gene is survived by his wife, Frances Williamson, of Nocatee, FL, daughters; Sherry Williamson, of Nocatee, FL, Gina Palanzi, of Fort Myers, FL, son, Sam (Carol) Williamson, of Nocatee, FL and grandchildren, Bradley and Samantha. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; Robert M. and Geneva Givens Williamson and brothers; Delton and Buddy Williamson.
