Obituary

Gladys O. Blocker, 95, of Port Charlotte, FL and formerly of Arcadia passed away on August 14, 2013. Gladys was born December 14, 1917 in Jennings, FL to the late, Henry and Essie Westberry Herndon. They moved to Arcadia when Gladys was three months old. Gladys graduated from Desoto High and spent her working years as a waitress. She married Troy Blocker and together they raised a daughter. Gladys had been a member of North Hillsborough Baptist Church until she moved to the Royal Palm Retirement Center in Port Charlotte in 2008, at which time she transferred her church membership to the First Baptist Church of Port Charlotte. Gladys was very active in the Arcadia community and is considered a social butterfly by family and friends. Gladys was a member of the Women's Club, American Legion Post K 11, Historical Society, Garden Club and most recently, the President of Royal Palm's Resident Club. In her spare time she enjoyed reading, hiking, fishing and gardening. Gladys is survived by her sister, Edna Baker, of Arcadia, FL, former son in law and caregiver, Charles (Amanda) Webb, grandchildren; Lorna Payne, Amy Webb, Josh Nga, 7 great grandchildren, nephew, James (Loretta) Smith, niece, Audrey (Roy) Gainous and Carl Musselwhite. She was preceded in death by her parents, an older sister, her daughter, Marge Webb, husband, Troy Blocker, granddaughter, Sandra Nga, grandson, Robbin Levens and niece, Gladys Musselwhite. A visitation will be held Saturday, August 17, 2013 from 10-11 a.m., funeral service officiated by Pastor J. Stamey at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ponger Kays Grady Funeral Home, 50 N. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia, Florida. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tidewell Hospice, 919 N. Arcadia Ave., Arcadia, FL 34266.
