Verona B. Keiper, age 90, went to be with her mother and the Lord, Tuesday January 3, 2012 in Cape Coral, FL. Verona or MAC as she was known was born December 9, 1921 in Fort Ogden, FL to Marshall and Beatrice McCray. She was the grand daughter of Bill Polk, a Florida and Fort Ogden Pioneer. Verona moved to Fort Myers, FL. in 1968 and remained living in Lee County until her death. She is of the Protestant faith and was a member of the Guiding Light Community Church, North Fort Myers. MAC loved life and enjoyed dancing, reading, playing cards, gardening and cooking for her family and friends. She is survived by one son William H. (Karen) Smith of North Fort Myers, FL. and two grandchildren; Leigh Ann (Sydney) Wilcox of Cape Coral, FL and William Scott Smith of North Fort Myers, FL.; three Great grandchildren Jeffrey Smith, Dylan Smith and Summer Smith; two nephews Rodney and Dale McCray of Arcadia and a longtime friend and companion Earl Lamb of Naples, FL.. Verona was preceded in death by her parents Marshall and Beatrice Polk McCray and two brothers Henry McCray and R.L. McCray. A visitation will be Friday, January 6, 2012 from 11:30AM until 12:30PM at the chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Homes, 50 N. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 12:30PM at the chapel with Pastor Benny Anthony of the Guiding Light Community Church officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery where Verona will be laid to rest next to her mother, father and longtime friend Opal McCray. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, a Memorial contribution in Verona s name be made to Hope Hospice, 2430 Diplomat Pkwy E., Cape Coral, FL.
