Lawrence A. Grantham, age 78, passed away Friday, August 30, 2013 in Port Charlotte, FL. Lawrence was born February 7, 1935 in Live Oak, FL. He lived in Wauchula, Fl for awhile, prior to moving to Arcadia, FL 45 years ago. He worked as a supervisor for the Florida Department of Transportation where he oversaw the maintenance of the highways. Lawrence enjoyed riding his golf cart around the neighborhood meeting and making new friends and keeping up with old friends. He loved the times he spent with his family. He enjoyed gardening and doing things with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and was of the Baptist faith, attending services at the Ft. Ogden First Baptist Church. Survivors are his beloved wife, Helen Grantham, Arcadia, two sons; David L. (Ellen McIntosh) Grantham, Arcadia, FL, Tracy Lee (Dena) Grantham, Dadeville, AL., daughter; Carolyn (Lowell Roberts) Rayl, Sneads, FL, one brother, Richard C. (Elizabeth) Grantham Sr., Wauchula, FL, two sisters; Betty G. (James M. Mack ) Windham, and Louise Grantham Marchesini both of Warner Robbins, GA, five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Lawrence is preceded in death by his parents Thomas Clarence and Dora Elizabeth Raulerson Grantham. Visitation will be conducted from 9:00AM until 11:00AM, Thursday, September 5, 2013 from the chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, 50 No. Hillsborough Avenue, Arcadia, FL. Funeral services will be at 11:00AM officiated by Reverend Jerry Atkins.
