Desoto- Gregory A. Cavas, Sr. "Papa" passed away peacefully Friday, April 5th, 2013. He was born in Greece, October 28, 1934 and came to America in 1951. He could not speak English when he arrived, but he worked very hard to learn the language and the culture. He moved to Arcadia in 1954 and worked at the Mint Drive-In for many years and then began a career with the Middleton Candy Company which later became Eli Witt Company, as a salesman. He retired after 35 years of employment with them. After he retired, he worked at G. Pierce Wood Memorial Hospital for six years. Papa is survived by three of his four children, George A. (Leslie) Cavas, Susan (Greg)Smith and Angela (Mac) McBee as well as six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lenora Cavas and his eldest son, Gregory A. Cavas, Jr. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, April 10th, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Oak Ridge Cemetary. In lieu of flowers, the family desires donations be sent to the American Diabetes Association, P. O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312 in his memory.
