Obituary

Roger G. Bass, Sr., of Punta Gorda, Florida passed away November 16, 2012. Roger was born on November 17, 1941 in Brewton, Alabama. He moved from Milton, Florida to Arcadia, where he resided from 1962 until 2010, when he moved to Punta Gorda. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Arcadia and two of the Florida Bluegrass Associations. Roger was a carpenter and roofer by trade and owned and operated B&S Roofing for over 25 years. Roger enjoyed square dancing, playing guitar and singing country and bluegrass music and was a member of several bands, including "Tater Hill Band" and "Roger Bass and the Hillbillies." Roger leaves behind his wife, Manuela Moeller Bass of Punta Gorda, Florida, son, Roger "Pete" Bass, Jr. and companion, Sharon Carson, of Arcadia, Florida, daughter, Rhonda "Rhonnie" and husband, Homer "Sparky" Murphy, of Arcadia, Florida, stepdaughters, Katie (Larry) Taylor of Zolfo Springs, Florida and Ramona Moeller and companion, Bobby Martin, of North Port, Florida, step-son, Eddie Bernard of Pensacola, Florida, 7 grandchildren and 6 great graqndchildren, sisters; Mary Emily "Penny" Wheeler of Greensboro, Florida and Christine "Cricket" (Bill) Warren, of Canton, Georgia, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Roger was preceded in death by his first 2 wives, Bettie Gomillion Bass and Odell Norton Bass, and his parents, William H. "Bob" and Mary Irene Wyatt Bass. A visitation will be held Sunday November 18, 2012 from 6-8 pm at Ponger Kays Grady Funeral Home, Arcadia, Florida. A funeral Service will be held Monday, November 19, 2012 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of Arcadia. Burial will be in Milton, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Roger's name to Tidewell Hospice, Inc. 917 N. Arcadia Ave., Arcadia, Florida 34266 Arrangements are by Ponger Kays Grady Funeral Home, Arcadia, Florida.
