DeSoto- Gladys L. Musselwhite, 72, of Arcadia, Florida passed away February 13, 2013. Gladys was born October 13, 1940 in Arcadia and has resided in DeSoto County all of her life. During her working years, Gladys was employed by G. Pierce Wood and Publix Supermarket on Merritt Island. Her greatest title was that of being a loving wife, mother, grandma, homemaker and friend. Gladys was "The Rock" of the family and extended her care and love to many children from broken homes of DeSoto County. She was very giving of herself and of her time. Gladys loved animals and spoiled her pets. She enjoyed fishing. Gladys was a member of Church of God of Nocatee, the church where she met and married her husband, Carl Y. Musselwhite, fifty four years ago. Gladys is survived by her beloved husband, Carl Y. Musselwhite, of Arcadia, Florida, son, Carl R."Rick" Musselwhite, of Arcadia, daughters; Pamela Rolon, Patricia (Cecil) Daughtrey and Joyce Backer, all of Arcadia, Florida, mother, Edna H. Smith, of Arcadia, brother, James M. "Jim" (Loretta) Smith, of Winchester, Tennessesee, sister, Audrey Ganious, of Arcadia, aunt, Ovedia Blocker, of Arcadia, 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, James V. Smith. A visitation will be held Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Church of God Nocatee, a funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor John Spratlin officiating.
