Obituary

Eliot W. Sperry, age 90, beloved husband of the late Roberta M. Sperry, father of Susan, Patricia, and the late Bruce Sperry, and dear friend of Maria Mazanek of Arcadia, FL, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2013. Mr. Sperry was born in New Jersey and lived in Maryland. He served as staff sergeant in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He was Postmaster of the Lutherville-Timonium Post Office in Maryland until he moved his family to Florida. He owned gas stations in Dania and Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In 1977, he moved to Arcadia, where he and his family enjoyed living in the country long the Peace River. He subsequently moved to Arcadia Village after the death of Bobbie where he found a different but equally happy life. He was member of the First Presbyterian Church of Arcadia, serving as Elder. He was a proud member of the VFW, serving at posts in Fort Lauderdale and Arcadia. At the later, he served for many years as Quartermaster. He is survived by daughter, Susan R. Bogart of Tampa, daughter, Patricia M. Castigione of West Palm Beach and her family, husband Mark, sons, Jason and Nickolas Castigione and his wife Kristen Castigione. Visitation will be conducted from 11:00PM until 1:00PM, Thursday, March 21, 2013 from the chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, 50 NO. Hillsborough Avenue, Arcadia, FL. Funeral services will follow at 1:00PM with the Reverend Doctor Will Browne officiating. The DeSoto Honor Guard, of which Mr. Sperry was a member, will render military honors at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL at a later date.
