Obituary

Desoto- Dorothy Louise Leonard Webb passed away on April 8, 2013 at the age of 95. She was born May 20, 1917 to Paul and Maude LeCompte Leonard in Trappe, Maryland. Dorothy graduated high school in 1933 and attended two years of business school in Easton, Maryland. From 1935 until 1940, she worked with the National Youth Administration, a part of the Works Progress Administration (WPA) in Salisbury, Maryland, providing scholarship money for high school and college students. From 1940 to 1941 she was a secretary with the E.I. DuPont de Nemours Corporation in Washington, DE. On June 28, 1941 she married Thomas S. Webb in Baltimore, MD. They moved back to the Eastern Shore where they raised four children. In 1960, the family moved to Arcadia, Florida where Dorothy worked for the Desoto Chamber of Commerce, the City of Arcadia and the Desoto County Library. She was also a substitute teacher for the Desoto County school system and was deeply involved with club work. She served as President of the Garden Club, member of the Women's Club, the Birdwatcher's Club and the Women's Circle at Trinity United Methodist Church. Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved son, David, in 1966 and husband, Thomas, in 1973, her sister, Elaine Kyle McWhorter and brother, Bruce Leonard. She is survived by her son, Thomas C. Webb, of Philadelphia, PA; daughters; Wendy Webb (Gary) Ketchum of Tallahassee, FL, Linda Webb (Edward) Nipper, of Arcadia, FL, 5grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, her sister, Shirley Murray of Chestertown, MD, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held in Easton, MD at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church of Arcadia.
