Obituary

DeSoto- Doris "Dodo" Bishop Pooser, was born May 12, 1927 in Arcadia, Florida, and joined the church triumphant as the sun was setting on March 14, 2013. She is survived by her son, Michael (Irene) Pooser, of Arcadia, Florida, granddaughter, Mary Frances (Michael) Hathcock, of Lake Placid, Florida, sister in law, Frances Pooser, brother in law, Jack Pooser, both of Arcadia, and cousin, Albert (Editha) Seyferth, of Rockledge, Florida. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, also named Michael, but known to everyone as Mike. They married in 1947. When Mike was called to active duty during the Korean Conflict, Dodo and their young son accompanied him to his duty at the Army Post Offices in Orleans and Paris, France. Mike and Dodo were active members of Kiwanis and also of the DeSoto County Democratic Party. She served as an alternate delegate to the 1992 Democratic National Convention. Mike and Dodo enjoyed travel, and saw most of the United States in their journeys. She enjoyed a long career as a beautician, operating DeSoto Beauty Shop, until her retirement in 1986. In her later years, Dodo resided at Arcadia Oaks where she also had many friends. Dodo was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church of Arcadia, where she was the first woman elected a deacon and the first woman to chair the Board of Deacons. She was one of the founding members of The Monday Morning Ladies, along with her good friend, Lucille Whitlock and their late friends, Ruth Yama and Marie Crowe. Dodo was active in the Women's Circles of First Presbyterian Church and also served as Registrar for the Annual Meeting of the Women's Presbyterial. Dodo delighted in her nick-name, which was bestowed upon her in infancy by the late, Margaret McAnly. While the bird known as the dodo may be extinct, Dodo Pooser will live in the memories of all who knew her. Visiting hours will be Monday, March 18, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at Ponger Kays Grady Funeral Home, Arcadia, Florida. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Arcadia. A private burial at Oak Ridge Cemetery will be held later that day.
