Dennis Rufus Howell, age 56 passed away surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, July 9, 2011 in Zolfo Springs, FL. He was born November 21, 1954 in Haleyville, AL., moving to Hardee County with his family as a small child where he had remained. Dennis spent his working career as a truck driver and mechanic and hauled a vast array of agricultural products. Dennis was a Christian and enjoyed playing his guitar, especially gospel and country music. He also loved his horses, fishing and hunting with his family and friends. He is survived by two sons Rufus M. (Linda) Howell of Wauchula, Fl and Russell D. (Kim) Allbritton of Orlando, FL, one adopted daughter Heather A. Howell of Wauchula, FL, his mother Earlene Edwards Colburn of Zolfo Springs, FL., one brother David A. (Eunice) Howell of Wauchula, FL, six sisters Naomi Herrin of Wauchula, FL, Gearldean (Paul) Shrum of Tracy City, TN, Shirley Barrington of Wauchula, FL, Brenda Howell of Zolfo Springs, FL, Debbie(Gene) Litton of Harviell, MO and Ocie Edwards of Zolfo Springs, FL., six grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Dennis was preceded in death by his father Doss S. Howell and brother Earl D. Howell. A visitation will be held Wednesday, July 13, 2011 from 6:00PM until 8:00PM at the chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Homes, 404 W. Palmetto St., Wauchula. Funeral Services will be Thursday, July 14, 2011 at 3:00PM at the chapel with Rev. Jeff Jiles and Duck Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Wauchula Cemetery.
