Delia Childress Twiss, 89 of Arcadia, FL. died in Longwood, FL. on July 10, 2008 from a brief illness. She was the daughter of LaFayette and Mattie Childress and was born March 7, 1919 in Bauxite, AR. She was preceded in death by her husband Alvie and a grandson Richard Bell. Delia was the owner of the American Shoe Shop in Arcadia, FL. for 58 years before retiring on Sept. 1, 2007 and moving to Longwood, FL. to live with her family due to health reasons. Delia was an all American cowgirl, She was named Rodeo Queen four times in DeSoto Co. and once in Polk Co. She was a member of the Arcadia Rodeo Assoc., the Saddle Club, and the DeSoto Co. Sheriff s Posse Auxiliary. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Arcadia, where she sang in the Chancel Choir for many years. She was a member of the Laura Mitchell Wesleyan Ser vice Guild. Delia is survived by children Doris (James E.) Bell, Longwood, FL. Jack (Hannelore) Twiss, Plant City, FL. and Gini (Richard) Adkins, Clermont, FL. She also leaves two sisters, Louise Twiss, Arcadia and Susie Lloyd, Ft. Meade, a brother Ralph Childress of Auburndale, FL. and five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, NCICFUL, P. O. Funeral services will be at 11:00AM Thursday, July 17, 2008 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Arcadia, FL. with Rev. Jim Wade officiating. Burial will be at 2:00PM in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Ft. Meade, FL.
