Obituary

David I. Mizell passed away peacefully at his home in Fort Winder, Florida on the same property where he was born eighty-six years earlier.  David was born on October 9th, 1934 to the late Floyd and Dorothy (Thompson) Mizell.

After graduating from DeSoto High School, David proudly entered the United States Army where he served as a Military Policeman in the First Infantry Division in Fort Riley, Kansas.  He was deployed to Germany in the 1950's post World War II and was proud to serve his country.  After returning home, David met and married his loving wife of sixty years, Eunice (Davis) Mizell. Together they raised two children and spent later years dedicated to their four grandchildren.

David worked for 25 years alongside the late Eddie Garner for the Florida Department of Corrections Agricultural Division where they raised feeder pigs and cattle for the State of Florida. After his retirement from the Department of Corrections, David spent many years raising cattle and citrus with his family in Fort Winder.

David loved Florida Football and he rarely missed a game whether it be in person at Ben Hill Griffin or at home on his television. He truly enjoyed supporting the Gators and watching his team get the win. He also enjoyed reading and sharing stories with others. David was an avid fisherman and spent a lot of time fishing with his grandkids. He was always ready to volunteer to help whether it be a field trip with one of his grandkids or just lending a helping hand.  His generosity and patience were unbound.

David will be dearly missed by his family and friends.  He leaves behind children Lorri Mizell Christ and Mark (Cynthia) Mizell of Arcadia, Florida, and his grandchildren Erin (Joel) Polk of Arcadia, FL, Adam Christ of Gainesville, FL, Jack Morgan Mizell of Tucson, Arizona, and Riley Mizell of Arcadia, Florida as well as one great grandchild, Alexis Polk.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Eunice Mizell, his parents, Floyd and Dorothy (Thompson) Mizell, and his brother, Kenneth Mizell.  David will be laid to rest with his wife alongside three previous generations beginning with his great grandfather.

A walk-through visitation will be held from 9:30 AM till 10:30 AM on Friday, August 6, 2021 at Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, 50 N Hillsborough Avenue, Arcadia, Florida.  A graveside service will follow at 11:00 AM at the Pine Level Campground Cemetery with Pastor Jerry Waters officiating.
