David Bruce Donaldson, Sr., age 58 passed away Friday, January 8, 2009. David was born February 8, 1951 in Amsterdam, New York, coming to Arcadia, Fl. at the age of five. He was employed as a maintenance worker for the Department of Juvenile Justice, for the state of Florida. David was also a fireman, working with the city of Arcadia, Fl. fire department for 15 years, attaining the rank of Captain. David owned and operated his own business for a short period. David was a graduate of DeSoto High School, class of 1970. He was a member of the Arcadia Moose Lodge, the NRA, and the DeSoto Gun Club. David was an avid gun collector. He possessed knowledge of firearms that set him apart from his peers. They would seek him out when they had questions about a particular gun. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time outdoors. He loved his family and spending time with them. He was of the Baptist faith. David is survived by his wife Colleen Sullivan Donaldson, Arcadia, a son David Bruce (Kathy) Donaldson, North Port, Fl. and a daughter, Brenda L. Donaldson, Port Charlotte, Fl. He leaves a grand daughter; Nicole Donaldson, No. Port, Fl. three sisters: Diane (David) Hyde, Pensacola, Fl., Deborah Esper, Lake Butler, Fl., Betty Rathbun, Belton, Texas, an uncle; Robert Donaldson, Virginia, and several nieces and nephews. David is preceded in death by his parents: Richard W. and Ruth Bell Donaldson Kerce. Visitation will be held, from 6:00PM until 8:00PM Monday evening, January 11, 2010 from Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, 50 No. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia, Fl. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00AM, Tuesday, January 12, 2010 from Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
