Clayton "Bud" Evers. Sr.
Bud Evers, 86, of Wauchula passed away on 04/12/2023 at Lakeland Regional Hospital after a long battle with post covid syndrome despite following standard medical protocol of vaccination and boosters. He was born in the New Zion community on October 10, 1936 and was a life- long resident of Hardee County. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Cecil and Mildred Evers, and his brothers Cecil, Jr,. And Ralph Evers
After graduation from Hardee High School in 1954, he joined the US Army, and they sent him to the most obvious place for a country boy from Florida- Alaska. He served his duty as a Ski Patrol infantryman representing Florida well.
Upon his return to Hardee County, his sister Susie insisted he go out with her friend Fay Hines. After a short courtship, they married in 1958, and remained married for 65 years until his death.
Bud spent most of his adult life as the Parts Manager at Field's Equipment Company in Zolfo Springs, where he was widely known by most of the farmers in the area as the man to call when you desperately needed some tractor part to save the harvest. He got a lot of calls after hours from farmers who needed help.
After he retired he enjoyed gardening, fishing, taking long walks every morning for exercise and spending time with his grandchildren. He is well remembered by his family for his mischievous grin and love of pranks and jokes. He was a man of few words, but always willing to lend a hand to others.
