Fast car connoisseur, avid gun collector and retired Army Veteran, Clarence Thomas' life does not end with your reading his obituary. His life continues as you carry him within your hearts.
Born September 2, 1952, in Andalusia, Alabama to Heze Thomas and Jewel Fain. Clarence was the second oldest of 6 children. Clarence peacefully exited this life on May 29, 2023, at home in the arms of his devoted and loving wife, Theresa.
Thomas, Clarence, Grandfather, or Uncle Clarence was a graduate of Smith Brown High School in Arcadia, Florida. After graduating high school, Clarence enlisted in the Army serving in Korea during the Vietnam War where he gained military expertise as a crew chief, aircraft mechanic and gunner.
Thomas met and fell in love with Theresa the love of his life while staying in Alabama with family. Clarence and Theresa married December 2, 1972. To that union one child, a daughter, Phyllis was born.
Clarence, having joined his parents Heze Thomas and Jewel Fain. Sisters Judith Hearns and Brenda Wallace. Alongside his only brother Robert McElroy. Thomas leaves behind a devoted wife, Theresa Thomas, Daughter Phyllis Herring of Dallas, Texas, grandson James (Nicole) Herring of Dothan, Alabama, granddaughters: Eric Henning and Angelica Strachan both of Dallas, Texas, sisters: Diane Adkins of Arcadia, Florida, Sandra Simons and a very special brother-in-law Jerry "Womack" Simons of Arcadia, Florida, and a sister-in-law Carolyn R. Moody of Atlanta, Georgia. Clarence leaves a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces who will mill him most but love him more.
The visitation will be from 12:00PM - 2:00PM on Friday June 9, 2023, in the Chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, 50 N. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia, Florida 34266. The service will follow at 2:00PM in the Chapel with Pastor Earnest Lee Hearns, Sr. officiating. Interment will be Monday, June 12, 2023, at 12:30PM at Sarasota National Cemetery.
