Obituary

Charles Davis Hall, Sr., age 81, of Arcadia, Florida passed away on Sunday, May 23rd, 2021, with his family at his side.  Born on July 26th, 1939 in Tifton, Georgia to the late Evelyn Maye and Bryant Hall, Charles was the oldest of six children.

He married the love of his life on March 6th, 1961; moving and traveling to many places as they raised their three children. They eventually settling in Arcadia, FL in 1978. Charles and Odessia later spent 15 years residing in Camp Hill, Alabama, where they gained friends that felt much like family. Charles, better known as "Paw Paw", will be remembered most for his love of the great outdoors as an avid hunter and a skilled fisherman. Accompanying him on a fishing or hunting trip, meant to pack a lunch, or even supper, because being "hungry" was no good reason to give up and go home. He seemed to never be short on fishing rods, hunting dogs, or time.

Charles was an exceptional mason by trade, passing his knowledge and skillsets down to the generations that followed him. But it was not uncommon to hear him say on the job site every now and again: "clean it up boys, let's go fishin'..."

He kept an impeccable garden and arguably made the best venison jerky you'd ever find south of the mason-dixon line. He enjoyed preparing and preserving his harvests just as much as acquiring them.

Charles is survived by his wife of 60 years, Odessia Elgin Hall of Arcadia, FL, son Charlie D. (Linda) Hall Jr. of Arcadia FL, daughters Pamela Hall Taylor of North Georgia and Tara (Joseph) Willis of Arcadia, FL, sister Hazel Matthews of Jacksonville, FL, brother Joseph Lee Hall of Tallassee, AL and sister Sarita Wilson of Fitzgerald, GA, 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Kathryn Cosby, and brother, Larry Hall.

When Charles would lay down the last brick or block on a job, he'd stand back and say, "Yep, that's the one we were looking for", as he admired a job well done. With a hope that is only possible through Jesus Christ our Lord, we imagine that as his last day on earth was lived, his Maker whispered the same: "That's the one we're looking for Charles, your job is done; welcome home."
