Obituary

Catherine Adeline Gross, age 93 passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Elmhurst, IL on October 11, 1929.

She was preceded in death by her parents Merton and Harriet Roberts and her husband of 46 years William Kirk Gross. They were married on December 22, 1947, after eloping to Waycross, Georgia. Her brother Merton Roberts Jr and identical twin sister Charlotte Brown.

The majority of her life was spent in Arcadia, living the younger years in Everglades City. She graduated from Desoto County High School in 1947.

She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Karen and Tony Guidry of Arcadia, Florida. Grandsons Joshua Guidry (Lena) of Nokomis and Jonathan Guidry (Jenna) of Orlando.

Catherine was a strong woman fighting through and beating 2 different types of cancers after being given a gloomy prognosis and was able to witness the birth of 3 great grandchildren, Alexander Guidry, Scarlett Guidry and Robbie Guidry of Nokomis. Her family meant the world to her. Catherine was a gift to her family. She loved planting flowers in her yard, fishing (always sure to catch the most or biggest) and anything to do with aviation after learning to fly at a very young age from her father in the family's plane. She enjoyed watching most rocket launches from Cape Canaveral, even setting her alarm for the middle of the night to watch night launches. She was a wonderful cook and could whip up a feast whether it was in her own kitchen or while camping with her family using limited conveniences but could make the best biscuits ever with a dutch oven and coals from the campfire.

Visitation will be Wednesday July 5, 2023, from 10-11am at Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home in Arcadia, Florida and Funeral service at 11:00am.  Burial will be at Oakridge Cemetery with Pastor Ellis Cross officiating.
