Burney A. Reed, Sr. age 74, of Arcadia, Fl. passed away, August 21, 2008 in Arcadia. He was born April 9, 1934 in Monticello, Fl. and had lived in Arcadia for the past 8 years, moving here from Bradenton, Fl. Burney was a retired Captain with the Merchant Marines working on oil tankers. Burney enjoyed woodcarving, and making toys and other pieces of art. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and other outdoors activities. Burney is survived by beloved friend Helen Longenecker, Arcadia, two sons, Burney A. Reed, Jr., Ottawa, Ill., Wayne L. Reed, Jacksonville, Fl., and daughter Cathy L. Galetti, Arizonia. He also leaves five stepchildren, Marie Swartz, Zolfo Springs, Fl., Pat Andres, Bradenton, Fl., Reggie Gormly, Charlie Gormly, and Danny Gormly, all of Sarasota, Fl. and a sister Bernadine Salamony, LaSalle, Ill. Several grandchildren. Burney is preceded in death by his wife Helen Reed. Graveside services will be conducted at 10:00 AM, Saturday Aug. 23, 2008 from the Braden River Cemetery, Bradenton, Fl. with Rev James Longenecker officiating.
