Buford Lorenzo Brown, passed away peacefully at the Arcadia Hospice House on July 29, 2026, at 6:10 a.m. at the age of 71. He spent his last days at the Arcadia Hospice House surrounded by friends and family. He was very well loved, and his friends were by his side as often as possible.
Born December 30, 1954, in the old Arcadia General Hospital, Buford’s roots ran deep in his hometown. His life journey began, unfolded and ended in the small, quaint town of Nocatee, a place he loved and served throughout the decades. Buford attended Desoto High School and graduated in 1972. After graduating, he furthered his education at Ryder Technical School in Tampa, specializing in mechanics. He found his calling as a school bus mechanic for the Desoto County School Bus Garage. Buford ensured the safe and reliable transportation of the local children and students for over 35 years. His commitment, expertise and reliability were highly valued.
Beyond work, he was a dedicated member of the Nocatee Baptist Church, finding fellowship and friends within his community. He was also a member of the Arcadia Gun Club where he served as treasurer. Buford’s passion for bikes was also well known, and he was a true motorcycle enthusiast. He was a proud member of the Florida ABATE organization, cherishing the camaraderie and advocacy the group provided. Buford embraced every moment riding with enthusiasm and pride.
Buford’s family was an important source of love and strength. He is survived by his sister, Lucille Brown; his life-long partner, Tracy Jebb; his niece, Rebecca Miller; and his nephew, Joshua Bowen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Myrtle and Verner Brown.
Buford Lorenzo Brown leaves behind a legacy of commitment, generosity, and steadfast friendship. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the community he served for so many years.
Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of Buford’s life at the First Baptist Church of Nocatee, located at 4610 Southwest Highway 17, Arcadia, FL 34266.
A viewing will take place on August 4, 2026, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., immediately followed by a funeral service at 11:30 a.m.
Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery, 601 N. Johnson Ave, Arcadia, FL 34266.
