Obituary

Betty Carpenter Nicholson, age 89, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2024, at Saint Anthony's Hospital in Saint Petersburg, Florida. Betty, along with her twin sister Hetty, was born October 4, 1934, in Carrollton, Mississippi to William Glenn Carpenter and Estelle (Crow) Carpenter. Betty's family eventually migrated to Dade County in South Florida, where she attended Redland and Homestead High Schools, graduating from the latter in 1952.

In 1955 Betty married Norman Nicholson. Two years later, in 1957, their union was blessed with the birth of their daughter Kandy Lynn Nicholson. Betty's working career was highlighted by a thirty-year tenure with Southern Bell. Following her retirement from Southern Bell she would spend another decade working for First State Bank of Arcadia. In her spare time, Betty enjoyed sewing, cross stitching and solving complex crossword puzzles. She was raised in the Methodist faith.

Betty was proceeded in death by her parents, daughter Kandy Leger, sisters Margaret Perkins, Hetty Nicholson, Rachel Griffin and brother Charles Carpenter. She is survived by eight nieces and nephews, as well as nine great nieces and nephews.
