June 1, 1933 – December 17, 2025
Betty Jean Bennett McLeod 92, of Wauchula, Florida
Betty Jean Bennett McLeod, 92, of Wauchula, Florida, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by loved ones.
"Honor your father and your mother, that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you." — Exodus 20:12
Born in Grady County, Georgia, to Frank and Vercie Jones, Betty moved with her family to Hardee County, Florida, where she lived for more than ninety-one years. She graduated from Hardee High School in 1951 and soon began her career at Wauchula Abstract and Title Company. Under the mentorship of owner A.C. Schenck, she learned the art of abstracting and examining land titles. After serving faithfully through two additional owners and more than thirty years of dedicated service, she retired. In later years, she returned to work for several more years at Hardee Abstract Company.
Betty was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Zolfo Springs. She found joy in attending church, fishing, tending to her flowers, and, above all, caring for her family. A strong and steady presence, she lived a life marked by contentment, faith, and quiet devotion to those she loved.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Bennett, and later by her husband, Don R. McLeod; her parents, Frank and Vercie Jones; her brother, Verone Jones; her sisters, Mildred Jones, Imogene Gilliard, Wistalone Scarborough Spires, Edna Klein, Mary Esther Klein, and Montine Tyson; her stepdaughter, Donna McLeod Humphreys; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her devoted son, Bobby Bennett (Sonja); her stepson, Randy McLeod; grandchildren Will Bennett, Emily Bennett Hawkins (Paul), Cindy McLeod Todd (Michael), Erin Humphreys Holmes (Wyatt), and Uri Humphreys (Amy); four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory.
