Barbara Jean Nicholson

Barbara Jean Nicholson, age 84, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, in Sebring, Florida. She was born on May 17, 1941, in Macon, Georgia, to the late Johnny Jones and Jewel Casey Jones.

She graduated in 1959 from Margaret McEvoy High School in Macon, Georgia. She later moved to Bowling Green, Florida, where she married John K. Nicholson in 1960. She worked for many years as a postal clerk in Bowling Green and retired after a dedicated career of service.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Wauchula.

Barbara enjoyed shopping and spending time at the beach, but most of all, she cherished time with her family and friends. She will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

She is survived by her son, John K. Nicholson Jr. (Donia Nicholson); her daughter, Cindy Thornton (John Paul Thornton); her grandchildren, Courtney (Holden) Nickerson and Danielle (Matt) Abbott; and her great-grandchildren, Piper Grace Nickerson, Bennett Ellis Nickerson, and Charleigh Kate Abbott. She is also survived by her nieces, who will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Kenneth Nicholson; her father, Johnny (Fulton) Jones; her mother, Jewel Casey Jones; and her sister, Mary Jones Johnston.

Burial will follow at Bowling Green Cemetery.
