Arthur
Dyal
July 29, 1929 – December 22, 2023
Arthur Wilson "Wissie" Dyal passed away Friday, December 22, 2023, in Fort Myers, Florida. He was born to Sally and Arthur Dyal on July 29, 1929, in Plant City, Florida. At an early age he and his family moved to the DeSoto County area, where he spent the rest of his life. Wissie was married to Mildred Brantley Dyal for 73 years, until her passing in September of 2021.
He served in the Air Force, and was honorably discharged in 1953. Upon his return to the area, he was employed at GPW Hospital, working in capacities as Fire Marshal and as Superintendent of the Water and Sewer Department. Wissie eventually left GPW Hospital, to become the Superintendent of the City of Arcadia Water and Sewer Department, and finally, City Administrator of Arcadia, a position that he held for 10 years, until retirement came due to health issues.
He enjoyed playing baseball, coaching youth ball teams, fishing gardening and "tinkering around". He loved playing golf and was an avid player, playing every Wednesday. He was presented a lifetime membership to the City of Arcadia Golf Course. He enjoyed people, and loved spending time with his family and friends, and loved attending worship services. In his latter years he was blessed to continue making new friends in his care facility, often seen wheeling around the room praying for people, or smiling with an "I love you", even to strangers.
He is survived by his son Dennis (Carolyn) Dyal of Arcadia, daughter Denise (Ellis) Cross of Arcadia, three grandchildren, Christen Wooten, Amanda Davis and Aaron Cross and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by numerous family and friends.
