Annetta Polk passed away at Magnolia Court in Fort Myers, Florida on Saturday, August 29, 2009. Annetta was born to Lonnie and Mabel Medcalf on January 5, 1917 in Atlanta, Georgia. She grew up in Atlanta, and in 1937 married A.C. Polk, Jr. Annetta was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, A.C. Polk, Jr. They had three children: Albert Clark III (Jean) of Fairfax Station, Virginia; Nancy (Steve) DeShazo of Fort Myers, Florida; and Allan (Shirley) Polk, formerly of Arcadia, FL, now residents of Fort White, Florida. They have nine grandchildren: Christopher Polk (Fairbanks, AK); Jennifer Polk (Orange, Australia); Andrea Simmons of Fort Myers, FL; Brent DeShazo of Orlando, FL; Matt DeShazo (Jaymie) of Fort Myers; Kimberly Brown (Jason) of DeFuniak Springs, FL; Jason Polk and Jon Polk of Fort White, FL; and Joel Polk of Arcadia; and ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Vivian Phillips, of El Dorado, AR. Annetta was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Arcadia and cherished the special relationships she had formed over several decades there. She taught an adult Sunday school class for several years before her health started to decline. Annetta will be remembered as a creative person who enjoyed sewing, making decorations, painting in various media, and china painting. An avid reader, she was a long-term member of the L&E Club, and an Honorary Life Member with 50+ years of membership in the Arcadia Literary Club. She and her husband owned the former Arcadia Polk s Badcock Furniture Store in Arcadia until 1995, when they sold the business. Visitation will be conducted from 5:00PM until 7:00PM Thursday, September 3, 2009 from Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home Chapel, 50 No. Hillsborough Avenue, Arcadia, Fl. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., September 4, 2009 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Arcadia, Fl. 34266 with interment following at Oak Ridge Cemetery. A special thanks to the caregivers at Magnolia Court, and Hope Hospice, in Fort Myers for the loving care provided to Annetta.
