Ann Cochrane
Sasser
July 17, 1925 – November 12, 2023
Ann Cochrane Sasser, 98, passed away on Nov. 12, 2023. She was born on July 17, 1925, in Wauchula, Fla., to Streety P. Cochrane and Clara Belle Herndon Cochrane.
She was married to William Fleming Sasser for over 50 years.
He preceded her in death, as did her son, Kenneth W. Sasser.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda G. Sasser, of Wauchula, and Cheryl S. Jett, of Atlanta, Ga., and by her granddaughters, Andrea Elizabeth DeDominicis, (Michael DeDominicis) of Smyrna, Ga., Angela Joy Okenica (Brian Okenica), of Ardmore, Pa., and Amber Michelle Russell (Kory Russell), of Chattanooga, Tenn., and by three great-granddaughters: Adelyn Mae Okenica and Avery Margaret Okenica of Ardmore, Pa., and Ann Frances DeDominicis of Smyrna, Ga.
Ann Sasser was the only daughter of Streety and Clara Cochrane. She had close relationships with her older brothers, Rev. Burton Lester Cochrane, Merle L. (Bill) Cochrane, Bob Cochrane, Don Cochrane, and Thomas A. "Punk" Cochrane, all of whom preceded her in death. She is survived by her nieces and nephews who are Thomas Bostick (Patsy) of Wauchula, Edwin Sasser (Louise) of Wauchula, Nanette Bostick Kicker (Charles) Gainesville, Ga., Bruce Sasser (Patricia), Maryville, Tenn., Shirleen Wait (Pete), Atlantic Beach, Fla., Gerald Cochrane, Polk County, Fla., George Cochrane, Crystal River, Fla., Richard "Ricky" Cochrane (Karen), Fort Meade, Cindy Selph (James), Arcadia, Fla., Randy Cochrane, of Tampa, Fla., and Robert E. Cochrane, Swainsboro, Ga.
Ann was known for her kindness and ready smile. Ann worked as a secretary for Doyle E. Carlton Jr., from the early 1950's when his state senatorial office was in Wauchula, and she continued working for him until 2004 in his land, cattle and citrus business. On the weekends, she enjoyed going on shopping trips to Tampa with her friends for a full day of fun. When not shopping, Ann would sometimes go saltwater and freshwater fishing with her husband, Billy, but she preferred not to join him on trips to the Everglades. Ann enjoyed cooking for friends and giving large dinner parties. She also entertained her friends on holidays, birthdays, and special occasions. Ann was an active member and officer of many local clubs, including the Wauchula Garden Club and the Wauchula Wednesday Musicale.
For more than 70 years, Ann was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Wauchula. The church played a big role in her life, and the church could depend on her to support its functions. She taught Sunday School for many years, and she sang in the choir. She will be missed by her friends and family.
Services will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2023, in the chapel of the First Baptist Church of Wauchula. Visitation will commence at 10 a.m., and the service will commence at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served for friends and family after the service.
The interment will be held thereafter at the Wauchula City Cemetery.
