Althea Elaine Moore (née Bailey), 74, of Arcadia, Florida, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026, in Sarasota, Florida. She was born on August 7, 1951, in St. Mary, Jamaica.
Althea was the beloved daughter of Dorrie Buchanan and the late Lawson Snape aka Rob. In the early 1970s, she immigrated to the United States, where she built a life rooted in perseverance, creativity, and faith.
A gifted artisan, Althea established a successful career in sewing, embroidery, and drapery design. Her handcrafted pieces were featured in multiple magazines and earned her the opportunity to open her own storefront, a dream she proudly funded through her day job at Citibank. Her hands were rarely still she found joy in creating, building, and bringing beauty into the world.
Althea had a deep love for gardening and took pride in growing her own plants, just as she nurtured the people in her life. She was a devout Christian whose faith guided her with grace, humility, and strength.
She is survived by her loving husband, Vallan Moore, also of Jamaica, and of Arcadia, Florida; her cherished child, Everett Russell; her beloved grandchild, Jasmine Russell; and her precious great-grandchild, Anakin McBean.
She was the eldest of seven siblings: Norman (preceded in death), Milton, Roosevelt, Marcia, Michelle, and Sandra.
A celebration of life service will be held on February 28, 2026, at Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home in Arcadia, Florida.
Althea will be remembered for her warmth, creativity, strong spirit, and unwavering faith. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched and the beauty she created with her hands and heart.
