Allen G. "Al" Harris, a dad, a grandpa, a great-grandpa, a brother, a firefighter, a self employed entrepreneur, & a longtime resident of Sarasota, Florida passed away on November 24, 2024 at the age of 85, in Arcadia with his family.

Al was born in Brooklyn, New York on September 22, 1939 to William G. Harris & Grace B. Pearson Harris. He graduated from high school, worked at the A&P Grocery store his father managed and was a volunteer firefighter at his small town firehouse.  He then went on to become a New York City firefighter from 1965-1975.  On his off days he had a contracting business.  He hated the cold weather so after retiring from the fire department he moved his family to Florida in 1976, built the family home himself and started his pest control business, A Pest Control later renamed Al Harris Pest Control, voted #1 in Sarasota for many years.

Al was an active member of the Elks and Eagles Clubs in Sarasota & Manatee, loved going to listen to country music and dancing.   He thoroughly enjoyed going on cruises with family and friends, he didn't even have to get off the ship, it was about the journey not the destination.  His only real 'hobby' was collecting rental properties all over Sarasota & Manatee County, he was very successful at it for nearly 50 years.  Growing up some of his fondest memories were the summers he spent in New Hampshire with his grandmother and siblings.  He worked at a dairy delivering milk during those summers.

Al is survived by his sister; Joan Engelbach; daughters; Kim Harris, Kristie (Danny) Via; granddaughters Kayla Via, Erika (Brad) Turner; great grandchildren; Kadence Via, Huk Turner, Lonia Deriso, Hazlee Turner & Harvee Turner.

He was preceded in death by his infant son William E. Harris; parents William G. Harris and Grace B. Pearson Harris; Brother Bruce Harris.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

A memorial service is scheduled for December 28th at 11:00 am at:
